I’m seeing lots of similar headlines to this one recently. The bigger issue is how they manage IP around this strategy. For example, are developers free to develop applications that Yahoo users can download (ala Apple) and will Yahoo decide which applications are shown to the public? This is similar to what Apple does, but isn’t fully open because Apple (not the community) decides which applications to offer on the iPhone.

These announcements are never as simple as they seem…..
