Open Innovation From A Practitioner's Perspective

Interesting Data on Social Networks

I’m doing a lot of reading and research on online social networks and what are the key factors in driving user participation and contribution. There are lots of good sources out there but two of my favorites are BJ Fogg (I saw him give a talk – great speaker) and the authors of Groundswell. They have a great blog which talks about the levels of participation and how different people will participate at different levels. Why is this important in the context of open innovation? Because as companies continue to engage external networks in their innovation practices, understanding the social nature of these networks will improve their capability to extract value. I myself am testing these ideas on a platform we developed for science and technology (Signtific).
